  Is Knowing/Using The Name Of God Important?

  i say no.. although the tetragrammaton appears close to 7000 times in the hebrew scriptures, the personal name of god does not.

  seems to me that god made sure that both that his personal name does not appear therein and that no one would ever actually know it or learn even how to pronounce it.

  he also made sure that his name (baring 3 hallelujahs in revelation) did not appear in the new testament.

  How do you deal with depression?

  i'm currently going through a bout of depression and my eating disorder has gotten worse.

  ever since my parents actually told me that they are going to kick me out when i turn 18 i've felt kind of hopeless about my life.

  my parents won't take me to the doctor because the psychiatrists won't have my "best interests" aka jw crap in mind, because really that's the root of all my problems.. i'm wondering if any of you guys have any advice with dealing with depression?

  As PB addict above mentioned WORK OUT ! IT really helped me especially when your age I was orphaned, my uncle tutor mismanaged our estate and I had self esteem issues. Sports were great for me especially the bodybuilding was able to flip off most people that harmed me earlier was great, sweet revenge. Seriously Black Wolf time heals all and many good suggestions above education, reading, sports, the outdoors, arts / crafts - engineering -medicine- law - finance you name it ! Make the rest of your life the best of your life ( sounds cliché I know but even in my early fifties I live by that moto.   An Elder tried to steel and inheritance: Stays an elder!

  this is the story of a woman, who’s mother became a jehovah’s witness in 1985. unfortunately, religion became a very hot topic in the family and the mother lost contact with most of her family.

  the situation was so bad that the family believed that it was the jehovah’s witnesses that completely prohibited her from contacting her family.. years went by and all remained the same until 2008; the jw mother became sick, very sick.

  as she felt that she could even die, she renewed ties with her only daughter.

  Did others experience this on the ministry or among JWs generally?

  sometimes it's hard to know if our own experience of jws was typical and what features were peculiar to our own area or the individual jws we knew personally.

  i was wondering if others experienced this among jws:.

  a few times on the ministry, when we were working wealthy areas with large houses, some brothers and sisters would make the comment that they look forward to taking ownership of one of these big houses after armageddon, when the worldly people have vacated them.

  Pretty common fare as well in French Canada with the younger crowd. Mostly obsessed with 'Lakefront' and high end cars with 'leather' Raiding car dealerships for big 4X4 pick ups and the like. I even bought in on it thinking that I'd commandeer my neighbor's lots that surround my house and then greet my parents back, set them up in one of the better houses and we would cultivate the newly vacant cleansed land that surrounds us. Dreams that Nazi's are made of.. I was pretty stupid to say the least. Actually quite embarrassed and ashamed..

  i came in during all the hype over 1975. the predictions about that date were the real driver behind all their activity.

  since then, they haven't had a good goad to prod the sheep.

  they seem to be smart enough not to try another date.. i think they plan to use fear instead.

  Boy what a cutie, oh Blondie ! Notice how they always use very attractive people in these vids ? What about us plain looking people are we not worthy either ? ( very shallow on their part, all about appearances isn't it always ? ) So where is her husband / father of her children here, what are we to assume ? These videos are VERY manipulative and are design to hit you on an emotional level. Look up various ropaganda techniques. Even as a Christian Bible believer such as myself if you step back and think critically it really hits you how coercive it all is and how they hope to dumb down the R & F and keep them loyal to their organization using ( pimping ) Bible examples.

  i've been reading so much lately about the pre message of the rc is about downsizing and living in bunkers.. are we getting ahead of ourselves?

  living within your means has been a good piece of advice.

  i do have a big house, but along with that i have to pay extra to heat it, extra work to clean it, more on residential taxes, worries about the volatile house market.

  I've been in my home for over 20 years and taxes and insurance have since doubled. Still it's payed for and is quite small and reasonable, so it looks like I'll die there. A condo would be same cost if not more plus the aforementioned headaches.

  One of the conditions when I started studying with the JW's in 2000 was that I wouldn't sell my house and move into an apartment so as to 'pioneer'. The brother I studied with even went through the trouble of driving up with a business owner that does similar work as my shop does to sell me on the idea that JW's are normal people.

  Turns out the business owner is a born in and totally stuck in and the brother I studied with came in when vulnerable and now has too much to loose as well. Since my DA he told me we could no longer be friends.

  Anyhow my home is small enough to be a keeper and I'm still young enough to do the upkeep and repairs so good for another 20 years I hope. That and see the WT crumble or downsize dramatically.
